Keep the cold out and the warmth in during those cruel winter days. The heating efficiency of most mobile homes is reduced to 50 % with the presence of draft prone windows. An owner should pay attention to their mobile home windows especially when the winter months are fast approaching.

Here are some steps to follow for sealing the windows in your mobile home for extreme weather protection:

Most mobile homes tend to have a gap between the siding and the window frame itself. Seal the exterior frame with a silicon caulk. Secure this with a caulking gun. If the window is too high, then have a steady ladder.

Purchase an exterior window insulation kit on your local home maintenance store. Before applying on your mobile home window, clean it first. Use hot soapy water and then dry the windows afterwards using a cotton towel. Use cotton balls dipped in alcohol to deal with the flat edge of the window edge.

Find the double sided tape on the insulation kit and apply it on the edge of the mobile home windows frame. Get the edges on each of the four corners of the window. When the tape is bare, with its top cover peeled off, place the window kit film. Press it hard on the tape while leaving some allowance on each side. Pull the window film firmly as you go along. Get rid of the excess film using the utility knife.

Shrink the film. This is done by setting a blow dyer in high heat and holding it a few inches from the film. Start with one upper corner and move clockwise to the opposite bottom part. See the kit’s instruction before proceeding. As the film becomes tight and transparent, move on to the next mobile home window.

Sealing mobile home windows is an essential part of winter preparation. It is an important part of the household maintenance routine that should be taken into account regularly.
